Hello SAM Families,
The time to give thanks is almost upon us! As many of you know this is my favorite holiday for numerous reasons, many of which involve gravy. But another reason I love this time of year so much is because it brings out the best in people.
We here at SAM and the SoccerPlex are thankful. We are thankful for the parents, for the volunteer coaches, team managers, assistants and, most importantly, the kids. And while we usually show our thanks by giving everyone the very best in youth soccer, the holiday season presents us with special opportunities to branch out and give back in other ways.
Please join us in an attempt to help bring some warmth and joy to the lives of less fortunate children and families. The Maryland SoccerPlex has once again partnered with Toys for Tots and the One Warm Coat charities to spread winter cheer!
Toys for Tots: My (almost) 5 year old and 2 year old are making their lists, 90% of which contain terms such as “Anna & Elsa”, “Princess” and “Winter” (DON’T ACT LIKE YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT). But it really doesn’t take much to make a child happy on Christmas morning. Just bring in a new, unwrapped toy for a child by December 17th and drop it in the box at the main desk inside the Discovery Sports Center. Toys for Tots will make sure it gets in the arms of a kid who needs it, and that’s a pretty awesome feeling.
One Warm Coat: The temperature right now is a beautiful 65 degrees. In 3 days that temperature will be… (checks weather)…roughly the coldest it’s ever been in the history of weather. And while many of us will bundle up under layers of clothing, that isn’t an option for everyone. So bring in your old, gently worn coats to help others stay warm throughout the winter. We accept all sizes and shapes of jacket (Men’s, women’s and children) and they can be dropped in the tubs located at the front of the facility) between now and January 31st.
