Important Information for All SAM Rec Coaches - PLEASE CLICK HERE.

SAM Rec is an 8-Week Recreational Soccer League.  The Spring league runs from April through June and the Fall league runs from September through November.

Fall 2016 SAM Rec League Dates:      September 10-November 5, 2016 (no games the weekend of October 8-9)

Special Notes:

  • All games will be played at the Maryland SoccerPlex.
  • Players will receive a full SAM uniform (jersey, shorts and socks) - only given out ONCE a year during the Fall season
  • Players must provide their own shinguards, which are required to be worn during all games.
  • Teams usually practice one to two times per week (usually on weekday evenings as determined by the coach).

As your child develops and progresses through the SAM Rec league different skill sets are developed.

U6, U7 & U8

  • Provides an atmosphere for player development and enjoyment of the game.
  • Promotes having fun wtih the ball while learning the fundamentals.​
  • Game format:
    • 4 v 4 (no goalkeeper)
    • Scores and standings are not kept
    • Maximum roster size of 12 
    • 8 minute quarters (U6 & U7); 3 15 minute periods (U8)

U9 & U10

  • Provides an atmosphere for player development and enjoyment of the game.
  • Promotes having fun wtih the ball while learning the fundamentals.​
  • Game format:
    • 7 v 7 including a goalkeeper
    • Scores and standings are kept
    • Build out lines will be used - click here for a diagram of build out lines
    • Maximum roster size of 12 
    • 25 minute halves

U11 & U12

  • Focuses on developing a relationship with their teammates in a fun environment.
  • Games teach players to test their ball skills and improve their awareness.
  • Games are free flowing, coach-guided and enable all players on the field to participate in all aspects of the game.
  • Game format:
    • 9 v 9 including a goalkeeper
    • Scores and standings are kept
    • Maximum roster size of 14
    • 30 minute halves 

U13 & U14

  • Focuses on ball skills and decision making.
  • Key elements for player development, focus on enjoyment and insight into the game as well as fitness, mental toughness and results.
  • Game format:
    • 11 v. 11 including a goalkeeper
    • Scores and standings kept
    • Maximum roster size of 18
    • 35 minute halves 

High School

  • Focuses on ball skills and decision making.
  • Key elements for player development, focus on enjoyment and insight into the game as well as fitness, mental toughness and results.
  • Game format:
    • 11 v. 11 including a goalkeeper
    • Scores and standings kept
    • Maximum roster size of 22 
    • 40 minute halves 

IMPORTANT DATES - Spring 2016 Season (8 game season)

  • May 28th/29th - BYE WEEK FOR ALL SAM TEAMS.
  • June 4th - Leveling the Playing Field Equipment Drive (pick up in front of the Discovery Sports Center and at the turf fields - fields 18, 19 and 20)
  • June 4th/5th - Final weekend of games.
  • June 7 and 8 - SAM SELECT Combine 6pm-8:30pm (players may attend one or both days)
  • June 15 and 16 - SAM new standards demonstrations (7-9pm)

IMPORTANT DATES - Fall 2016 Season (8 game season)

  • July 15 - 1st registration deadline, $10 increase (from $145 to $155)
  • July 15 - Returning player deadline
  • August 2 - SAM Rec Coaches Meeting #1 (coaches must attend at least one)
  • August 3 - SAM SELECT Coaches Meeting #1 (coaches must attend at least one)
  • August 9 - SAM SELECT Coaches Meeting #2 (coaches must attend at least one)
  • August 10 - SAM Rec Coaches Meeting #2 (coaches must attend at least one)
  • August 14 - Last date to sign up a team (Rec and SELECT)
  • August 15 - Practice schedule release
  • August 17 - Game request deadline (any requests after this date WILL NOT be honored unless in case of emergency)
  • August 20 - SAM Day at Dicks Sporting Goods (Rio Washingtonian Center 9am-1pm)
  • August 21 - Fall Open House (12pm-4pm)
  • August 21 - SAM new standards demonstrations (12pm-4pm)
  • August 26 - Game schedule release
  • September 1 - SELECT player registration deadline (no registrations for SELECT will be taken after this date)
  • September 8 - Rec player registration deadline (no registrations for Rec will be taken after this date)
  • September 10-11 - First weekend of games
  • October 8-9 - No games
  • November 5-6 - Last weekend of games

How to Read the Age Division Table

  • Find the month the player was born
  • In that column, find the year the player was born
  • Scan to the left to find your proper age group
  • H.S. Division includes DOBs in 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001 & part of 2002
  • Players and teams may only play up one year
  • Players and teams may not play down in an age group
