Spring 2021

Fundamental 4

FUNdamental Fours

We are excited to introduce the Fundamental Fours clinic and game to the U6 and U7 age groups. Come to learn the game, love the game and develop at the same time. The program also offers parents the opportunity to work closely with our staff coaches to learn how to conduct a practice and manage game play. It's a great first step to becoming a parent coach in the SAM Recreational League. See below for more details.

The Maryland SoccerPlex places safety for players, coaches, spectators, and staff at the forefront of all we do.  The Maryland SoccerPlex has worked with State and County officials to develop safety protocols and procedures to provide the safest environment possible for visitors to our campus.  We have successfully operated leagues, practices, tournaments, and camps since June 2020 when we were allowed to reopen by the County.  To date we have no known cases of transmission from activities at the SoccerPlex.  We have instituted policies such as health and temperature check daily for visitors, enhanced cleaning protocols, enhanced our scheduling procedures to allow for more time between activities as well as staggered ingress and regress between user groups.  We have added additional staff to assist with cleaning as well as monitoring and enforcement of COVID rules and procedures.  The safety protocols that we have developed at the SoccerPlex have been posted to the County website as an example for other entities to use for their own facilities and programs

Play – Practice – Play Model

The focus is to have experiential learning with soccerThe concept of Play-Practice-Play is to allow young players to experience the game and game-like situations as much as possible. This approach differs from traditional practices that may have children standing in lines, running laps and participating in drills that don't resemble the game of reality-based approach to allow for holistic learning.

Play – Practice for 45 minutes with a group and a professional coach

Final Play Phase – 30 minutes with own coach/parent and guidance from a professional coach to both players and parent coaches.

Week 1 – Intro of coach/meet the players/ icebreaker games/create teams/Play

Week 2 to 8 – Play-Practice – Play initiative.
